KEVIN LIMA
"Born and raised in
Pawtucket, Rhode Island, he first became interested in animation and he has
been drawing for as long as he can remember. Since an early age he was
interested in bringing characters to life and how to move them in an
entertaining way that’s why Lima studied acting at Emerson College before
enrolling in CasArts Animation Program. After graduating, he worked briefly at
Disney providing animation for the Sport Goofy project. With limited job
opportunities at the studio at the time, he took an assignment designing
characters for the independently featured The Brave Little Toaster. He helped
develop a project called Samurai Cat and animated on The Chipmunk Adventure
before returning to Disney in 1987 to animate the character of Fagin for Oliver
& Company. Following that, Lima worked in some capacity on each of Disney's
next five animated features. In the next few years Lima worked on many
features for Disney from designing Ursula and Flounder for The Little Mermaid,
Jake and Frank, the frill-neck lizards from The Rescuers Down Under to playing
a key role in creating the character of Lumière for Beauty and the Beast. For Aladdin and The Lion King. In
1992, he was offered a chance to direct A Goofy Movie. This film was both a
critical and commercial success and breathed new life into the lead
character".

The critics of the movie are emphasized in how parody a different
princess movies of Disney but at the end of the movie it ends on the same thing
they tried to parody, is the same story about the princess searching for their
prince but the interesting thing is that is an animated movie and also part of
the story is with real personages and in the real world.
SOCIO-HISTORICAL BACKGROUND
“The work of producing animated section began 9 months before the shooting of the film, after the animated advisors were a year collecting images that would support the story that he would have to continue in reality. Therefore, after selecting houses and castles that were to appear in Andalasia (the imaginary country) and reminiscent of other houses and castles of Disney classics, Lima and his team opted for a decorative Art Nouveau and the American city where condenses most of this style: New York. This is the reason that New York Andalasia and work so well together: New York City becomes an almost unreal and Andalasia in a country closer to reality. The film fuses the classic fairy tale with a modern romantic comedy. That is, history shows the typical beautiful princess banished from her magical musical world by an evil queen”
The Art
Nouveau is a movement on arts and architecture beginning in 1890-1910 is a
modern movement and still being an important movement around the world, this
style use curves and organic forms. The movie is nowdays and is interesting
because in Andalasia, the imaginary world of Giselle, the castle and the houses
use this style in their architecture. In the part of New York in the movie, the
buildings are moderns and art nouveau is a modern movement.
Wardrobe
“From the clothing style of the seventeenth century French court in Andalasia, the more modern lines of the extras in New York to the huge amount of dresses that go through the shoulders of the protagonist”
This could be a type of socio-historical context because fashion begin
since the necessity of being dressed and trough the years continue their
evolution and in the movie we can see how in Andalasia they wear a seventeenth
fashion style but when she arrive to New York, fashion is modern and they use
less cloths.
